Back Up Your Pocket PC
Your Pocket PC can store a lot of information, but if you don't back up that information, you could lose it when your Pocket PC runs out of power, or has to be hard-reset, or is lost or stolen. There are four ways you can protect your information:
- When you sync your Pocket PC with your desktop, PIM information on your Pocket PC (Contacts, Calendar, etc) is copied to your PC. Be sure that you've set up everything important to be synchronized; on your PC, open ActiveSync. Go to Tools > Options. Here under Sync Options you'll be able to put a check next to each category of information you want to synchronize. Be sure to select Files if you want the Pocket Excel and Pocket Word files you create on your Pocket PC to be synchronized.
- ActiveSync has a Backup option. With your Pocket PC connected to your PC via ActiveSync, (and synchronization finished), go to ActiveSync on your PC. Click on Tools > Backup/Restore.
Here you'll be able to make a backup of your Pocket PC onto your PC.
- Many Pocket PC manufacturers include a backup application with their device. Check the documentation that came with your device for details about such a program. For instance, when you get an HP iPAQ, the backup application is called iPAQ Backup, and is found under Start > Programs.
- Finally, you can get a third-party backup program such as the award-winning Sprite Backup.
