Terminal Server
A few issues ago, we wrote about how to run ClickFORMS on Microsoft
Terminal Server, and received some pretty good interest on that
subject. So we’ve created a link on our website to provide a
bit more detail. Here it is:

The
Mobile Appraiser Part 3 – Cellular Wireless Technology
This is the third in a series of articles on technology for
the mobile appraiser.
I
really knew that wireless was here to stay when my 60 year old
church pastor opened his Sunday sermon with “I was using my
laptop at Starbuck’s, researching the Internet for today’s sermon,
while sipping on a Latte...”
Reverend
Don isn’t alone, lots of people, including many appraisers,
are using wireless technology to improve their productivity.
(Here’s an interesting article about Starbuck’s and wireless:
www.wirelessweek.com
So
yes, wireless is here to stay. It works so well that even a
self-admitted non-technical person like Reverend Don can use
it. Hopefully these articles will help you see that wireless
is not only easy, but for the mobile appraiser, a necessity
to do business in the new millennium.
Last
issue we talked about Bluetooth and WiFi (802.11) wireless technologies.
Both of which are valuable in their own right – 30 and 300 feet
for Bluetooth and WiFi, respectively. But what if you aren’t
within 300 feet of a Starbuck’s and you need to send a file
back to the office or the client and you need to do it right
away? The answer is cellular wireless technology. In this issue,
we’ll discuss how to send files or surf the Internet using cellular
wireless technology.
Cellular
wireless – or cellular WLAN as it is sometimes called – requires
two things that do not come with your PC: an “aircard” (a cellular
wireless card), and a cellular WLAN service provider like Verizon
or AT&T. Aircards cost about $100 - $200, depending on the
ubiquitous rebates. The WLAN service is usually $80 - $100 per
month depending on usage. This is in addition to your current
cell phone bill.
The
Verizon Wireless link below provides an idea of the products
and services associated with cellular WLAN:

As
a final note, while cellular wireless may be an option, there
is a lot of talk about creating a national WiFi network using
802.11 technology. If this happens, you won’t need a special
cellular aircard to transmit access the Internet, you’ll be
able to use your existing WiFi technology. More information
can be found in this article: www.computerworld.com

Tech Tip: How to Recover a Deleted Page
Have
you ever deleted pages in ClickFORMS and then realize you didn’t
mean to remove them?
There is a way to get the deleted pages back – but you have
to act quickly.
|
If
you delete a page or set of pages from a report then realize
you made a mistake, immediately close the report and choose
Don’t Save. By default, ClickFORMS will Auto-save
reports every five minutes. So if you immediately close
the report without saving, then re-open the report, you
should be back to the last saved version of that report.
To
modify the Auto-save settings, select Edit > Preferences
> Application and click on the Saving tab.
In the upper-left corner you can turn Automatically save
ON or OFF and set the time interval.
