ClickFORMS Makes Working with the VA Easy

ClickFORMS’ built-in PDF creator is compatible the VA’s new electronic submission procedure that went into effect at the beginning of this month. The new procedure replaces the current process of sending appraisals directly to lenders and Regional Loan Centers (RLCs) with a single centralized web site. The centralized site is accessed through the VA’s new E-Appraisals application on the Veterans Information Portal (VIP). The new E-Appraisals system will improve the VA’s ability to track and monitor all incoming appraisals. It will also interface with The Appraisal System (TAS). TAS is a centralized, web-based appraiser assignment system designed to increase the efficiency of processing Veterans’ loan applications.

The VIP web site is located at http://vip.vba.va.gov. To obtain a User Name and Password for VIP, appraisers must be registered for TAS. This can be done from the VIP site by clicking on the User Registration button. If you encounter any problems when using E-Appraisals, please contact the Construction and Valuation Unit TAS Help-Desk of the local RLC.

The VA is asking its fee appraisers to begin using E-Appraisals for electronic transmission of all VA appraisals as soon as possible, but will require use of the system by October 1, 2004. All appraisals will continue to be in PDF format and must be submitted as full and complete reports. E-Appraisals will not accept submission of partial appraisal reports, appraisal addenda, or correspondence. For a short time while the VA is implementing TAS system upgrades, when the lender’s email address is shown on VA Form 26-1805, Request for Determination of Reasonable Value, appraisers will be required to email the lender a notification that the appraisal has been uploaded through E-Appraisals. If no lender email address is shown, appraisers should contact the requester and obtain the lender's email address before completing the appraisal.

Additional details on E-Appraisal are included on the Veterans Benefits Administration Circular 26-04-09 and at the VA home loans website www.homeloans.va.gov.

Microsoft Releases Patch to Fix Security Flaw in Windows XP

Microsoft announced last Tuesday that it has found a new security flaw with its Windows XP operating system and warned that an attacker could infiltrate computers by persuading their owners to open a specialized graphics file.

The company released a patch to fix the flaw as well as a tool that allows users to scan their systems to see if they need it. Users who have already downloaded Microsoft’s recent security update, Service Pack 2, are not affected.

The vulnerability affects people running Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, later versions of Office, and some specialized applications, including Digital Image Pro and Visio 2002.  The flaw can only be exploited if the user is tricked into opening a specialized file or viewing a specially crafted image, Microsoft said.
