CA and the 15 hour USPAP class (source: Appraisal Today)

Although the OREA web site says you must take the 7-hour National USPAP class taught by an AQB instructor for renewal, it was not available until 1/1/03. So, many appraisers need to re-take the class.

The 15 hour National USPAP Class developed for pre-licensing also appears to have been approved for the 7-hour National USPAP Update Class.

It is very confusing. Our local AI chapter is offering Course 410 - titled "National USPAP - 15 Hour." Local appraisers have told me they got different answers from OREA regarding whether or not this class satisfied the 7-hour National USPAP Update.

Why would someone take 15 hours and a test instead of just 7 hours? They are up for renewal and the 7 hour class is full or they can't wait for another class.

To find out the status of the USPAP class you want to take, go to http://www.orea.ca.gov and click on Education on the left side. Then scroll down the screen and click the box on USPAP. Or, type in the approval number.

Ann O'Rourke will be offering the 7-hour National USPAP Update class on August 4, prior to her 2 day Appraisal Today 2004 National Conference August 5-6 in South San Francisco. For more information, go to http://www.appraisaltoday.com/2004conference/2004_conference_home_page.htm
